Douglas Deslauriers for Richmond

Personal Life

Family

My fiancée Kim and I have lived in Richmond since 2019 and are both lifetime Rhode Islanders. We are currently planning our marriage and hope to raise children here in the future. Our families live in the north of the state, and we owe them many thanks for raising us and teaching us.

Work and Education

I work as a software developer in Rhode Island, developing software static analysis tooling for safety critical industries such as automotive, rail, air, and medical. I am a contributing member of the Motor Industry Software Reliability Association (MISRA) C and C++ working groups, helping guide safe software in modern vehicles. I also contribute to the Safety-Critical Rust Consortium, which has similar goals.

I earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Rhode Island (URI). I learned leadership and outdoorsmanship as a Boy Scout in Troop 1139 and earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Recreation

I am proud to maintain and repair my house and cars, and often spend a good amount of my time doing so. I enjoy developing my skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, sewing, and wrenching on cars.

In the summer months, I enjoy sailing in Greenwich Bay on a sailing team, hiking, and primitive camping, although I haven't been able to find time for the latter ones often. Here is the boat I primarily race on -- you can see me under the blue and red flag.

During the winter, I enjoy skiing, indoor soccer, and fulfilling the role of race director for remote-controlled sailboats.

When I'm looking to relax, I play and create video games with friends. My friends and I attend anime and fandom conventions. Here's a picture of the team I assembled for the Global Game Jam.
