Douglas Deslauriers for Richmond

Richmond Field Day

I was glad to attend the Richmond Town Field back in June. While I was there, I enjoyed the Kentish Guard's presentation, where they taught about one of the USA's oldest militias and did a demonstration of their black-powder muskets. I watched the antique tractor parade, where I marveled at how well some of these tractors had been maintained over the years, while sipping on some Del's. I visited the League of Women Voter's table, where I learned about the candidate forum they will be hosting for Richmond this year.

The New England Wireless & Steam Museum had some quite old radios on display. I was impressed by how many questions the attendant at the table could answer about the history of steam engines in Rhode Island. I also learned about their Antique Marine Engine Exposition, which I plan to visit later in August.

The day ended with a performance by the Warwick Symphony Orchestra, and The Unlikely Strummers. The concert featured a lot of show-tunes and sounded great. Unfortunately, I had to leave the performance early but enjoyed the show-tunes while I was there.

I wanted to thank the 250th Semi Quincentennial Commission for organizing the field day. I'm glad Richmond has recreation opportunties like this, and am looking forward to the other events the commission is putting on. The Richmond Food Truck nights are a good continuation, with the next one coming up on July 15th, at town hall. If elected, I would work with the recreation commission to support entertainment and community events in the town.
